HIGH-RISE Trailer

There are so many stories like High-Rise that I’m shocked it’s not a genre to itself. I mean, how many books, movies, and television series are there about an isolated group descending into chaos? The foibles of the human mind are put on deep allegorical display, and a certain kind of person turns up to watch every iteration, nodding in agreement that, yes, humanity sucks.

Perhaps the consumers of these stories (myself included) are just pessimists, feeling in our bones that everyone falls prey to our mind’s limitations in the end, or maybe we just read George Orwell’s “Animal Farm” way too young. Whatever the reason is, we undoubtedly exist, and if you follow us down our dark rabbit hole, you’ll find some of the most striking imagery in modern storytelling.

As an adaptation of the novel “High-Rise” by acclaimed science fiction novelist J.G. Ballard, this film looks primed to deliver just that kind of story, with arch judgements and sly humor adding a bit of fun to its dour outlook. One pass at the trailer shows that it will be visually rich and that things will not turn out well for the titular building’s occupants. Their meticulously designed lives will crash, and it will be a grand, glorious failure. Just think of all the ways that building could fall and how many of those scenarios could rival the horror of a burning island or two indistinguishable species.

High-Rise is directed by Ben Wheatley and stars Tom Hiddleston, Jeremy Irons, Sienna Miller, and Luke Evans. It will be released in the U.K. on March 18th, 2016 and in the U.S. on April 28th, 2016. For international release dates, click here.
