GUILLERMO DEL TORO’S PINOCCHIO Trailer
A darker version of a well-known tale comes to life in Guillermo del Toro’s Pinocchio.
We all know the rough outline of the story: a wooden puppet comes to life and tries to become a real boy, but most people know the sanitized version that Disney presented us years ago. This is a different take on Pinocchio’s story, one that draws from the 1883 book The Adventures of Pinocchio and lets the aspiring boy be a little less good. He gets up to plenty of mischief this time around, but the core of this father-son tale will remain intact.
The name, outside of advertising the involvement of the beloved Guillermo del Toro, is to differentiate the story from Disney’s live-action retelling of their version, which also comes out in 2022. With del Toro directing this is sure to be instantly recognizable, though, because the man who brought us warped, lovely monster tales like The Shape of Water and Pan’s Labyrinth won’t make anything sanitized.
This is del Toro’s first foray into animation, but that hasn’t stopped him from attracting a top-notch cast. Voice actors include David Bradley as Geppetto and Gregory Mann as Pinocchio with Ewan McGregor, Finn Wolfhard, Cate Blanchett, Tilda Swinton, John Turturro, and Christoph Waltz co-starring.
This one is sure to be a magical time.
Guillermo del Toro’s Pinocchio is directed by Guillermo del Toro and stars David Bradley, Gregory Mann, and Ewan McGregor. It will be released theatrically in the US in November before being released on Netflix in December.
