GRINGO Trailer

It’s drugs, action, and one very out of place businessman in Gringo, the new film from stunt specialist Nash Edgerton.

Don’t think this is a John Wick-style career shift, though. Nash Edgerton has been producing, directing, and editing projects for years through Blue-Tongue Films, the production company/film collective from Australia behind features like The GiftAnimal Kingdom, and The Rover. They do a variety of shorts and music videos as well, all of which have given Edgerton significant experience behind the camera without making him instantly recognizable.

Most people will wonder if he’s related to Joel Edgerton, who stars in Gringo, is a part of Blue-Tongue Films, and yes, is Nash’s brother. Those connections explains why Gringo features such a stacked cast, which also includes David OyelowoCharlize Theron, and Sharlto Copley. It’s a strange assortment of people, with some playing against type and others staying right in their comfort zone, which adds to the energetic, slightly zany feel of the trailer.

Gringo promises to be an action/comedy that keeps you on your toes, a farcical descent into the drug trade that will require more of Nash Edgerton than just some well-staged stunts. If he blends the genres just right, then he should get more high profile opportunities behind the camera going forward.

Gringo is directed by Nash Edgerton and stars David OyelowoJoel Edgerton, and Charlize Theron. It will be released in the U.S. and the U.K. on March 9th, 2018. For international release dates, click here.
