The end comes from the sky in Greenland, the latest from director Ric Roman Waugh.

In a scene reminiscent of the end of the dinosaurs, this film imagines humans meeting our fate via a comet. Technically it’s chunks of a comet, but they’re large enough and numerous enough to hit the reset button on life. In the midst of this cataclysmic event is a lone family trying to make their way to the only safety they know: bunkers set up in Greenland. But with the world crumbling around them, the journey is sure to be crazy.

That’s right, it’s a disaster pic, which are we really in the mood for? At least it’s a very different disaster than we’re experiencing in real life, one that promises way more action than huddling in our homes. With a background in stunts and plenty of genre-heavy directing gigs under his belt (Angel Has Fallen, Shot Caller), Waugh should be able to deliver the thrills the genre lives on.

And hey, none other than gruff action dude Gerard Butler is leading the family through the fray. Co-starring with him is Morena Baccarin and Roger Dale Floyd.

That combo of people should be able to make the end of humanity as we know it a fun time, even if it is coming at an ominous moment.

Greenland is directed by Ric Roman Waugh and stars Gerard Butler, Morena Baccarin, and Roger Dale Floyd. It’s getting a theatrical release, so look for it once theaters reopen in earnest. Keep up with the shifting release date here.
