GRADUATION Trailer

Everything is breaking in the trailer for Graduation, the latest from writer/director Cristian Mungiu. Windows and carefully formulated plans are no match for the curveballs life throws at you, and as maddening as it is to experience them yourself, it’s a cruel twist of the knife to see your loved ones bear the brunt of them.

It’s a perspective that Mungiu has played with before, most notably in his acclaimed film 4 Months, 3 Weeks, and 2 Days. In that film, a young woman is put through the wringer to obtain an illegal abortion for her friend. For Graduation, it’s a father trying to keep his daughter’s future together after a violent attack. How far is he willing to go, or more interestingly, how much farther is he willing to go for her than he would for himself?

Given Mungui’s previous work, the answers will likely be punishing to obtain. The film earned him a Best Director award at last year’s Cannes Film Festival (he tied with Olivier Assayas for Personal Shopper). With other awards and strong critical reception backing it up, this doesn’t look like a film you should let slip by.

Graduation is directed by Cristian Mungiu and stars Adrian Titieni, Maria-Victoria Dragus, and Rares Andrici. It will be released in the U.K. on March 31st, 2017 and in the U.S. on April 7th, 2017. For international release dates, click here.
