Goon: Last of the Enforcers is the sequel to the original 2011 hockey comedy Goon. The first film was a cult hit that focused on the discovery and subsequent rise of Doug Glatt (played by Sean William Scott) a doorman turned hockey goon after he beats a man at a hockey game for calling his brother gay. The coach of the opposing team notices Doug knows how to throw a punch and decides to give Doug a chance. This leads to Doug becoming the team’s goon.
A goon (or enforcer) is a player who is mostly on the ice to make sure his teammates don’t get beat up by opposing players and to respond when his teammates get beaten up. Goon: Last of the Enforcers depicts the Halifax Highlanders dealing with a pro lockout.
Goon: Last of the Enforcers will be writer-director Jay Baruchel‘s directorial feature film debut, he co-wrote the original as well as the sequel with comedy writer Evan Goldberg whose credits include T2 Trainspotting.
Goon: Last of the Enforcers is directed by Jay Baruchel and stars Sean William Scott, Kim Coates, Elisha Cutbert, Eugene Levy, Alison Pill and Liev Schreiber. It will be released in Canada on March 17th, 2017. For international release dates, click here.
