GOD’S CREATURES Trailer

A horrifying possibility looms over a family in God’s Creatures, the latest from directors Saela Davis and Anna Rose Holmer.

Aileen’s family doesn’t have a ton of options in their small fishing town, but she and her two adult children are comfortably entwined in their community. That is, until her son, Brian, doesn’t come home one night and accusations begin flying. Aileen decides to cover for her son, but her daughter and lots of others in the community suspect that he may not be worthy of protection, which puts Aileen in a very uncomfortable place.

This looks like an introspective character piece, one that fits nicely within what Davis and Holmer have proven they can do. Davis co-wrote and Holmer co-wrote/directed the 2015 gem The Fits, which followed a young girl trying to fit into the strange goings-on of a step team. God’s Creatures looks to be a similar blend of personal and communal pressures, which bodes well for its success.

Starring as Aileen is the great Emily Watson with the two children being played by Paul Mescal (Normal People) and Aisling Franciosi (The Nightingale). That’s an impressive group to bounce off each other, so hopefully, the depth of this premise gets mined for all its worth.

God’s Creatures is directed by Saela Davis and Anna Rose Holmer and stars Emily Watson, Paul Mescal, and Aisling Franciosi. It will be released in the US on September 30th, 2022. Further release dates are not currently known.
