GLORIA BELL Trailer

Sebastián Lelio returns to his breakout material with Gloria Bell, an English-language remake of his 2013 film Gloria.
From what we see in the trailer, it looks like Gloria Bell is sticking to the same story. A divorcée in her 50s struggles against loneliness, refusing to believe that life must slow down with age. She has her children, sure, but they’re off living their own lives. Their infrequent check-ins aren’t nearly enough to sustain her, so she spends her time frequenting singles events and trying out new, hip trends. Far from a sad case, Gloria is embracing the world and having a good time doing it.
The language shift allows the film to be packed with recognizable faces, the biggest of which is Julianne Moore in the title role. A name like hers will attract a wider audience than the original could ever have hoped for, and the extra eyes are the reason for this remake’s existence. Also joining her are John Turturro, Michael Cera, Brad Garrett, and Jeanne Tripplehorn.
Lelio brought his usual openhearted immersion to Gloria the first time around, a trend he has continued with A Fantastic Woman and Disobedience. There’s little reason to believe he will change this formula now, so expect Gloria Bell to be a vivid character study.
Gloria Bell is directed by Sebastián Lelio and stars Julianne Moore, John Turturro, and Michael Cera. It will be released in the US on March 8th, 2019. For international release dates, click here.
