GHOSTBUSTERS: AFTERLIFE Trailer

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ahZFCF–uRY

There’s always more ghosts, so I guess we’re reviving that specter-fighting franchise again for Ghostbusters: Afterlife.

Oklahoma replaces New York City this time around, with a down on their luck family arriving in a small town as mysterious events are coming to a head. The ground shakes, there’s a green glow, and their deceased relative has a bunch of weird equipment stashed in a farmhouse. There’s some sort of link between the family and the events of the ’80s (yes, those original movies happened in this world), and once again it’s up to a ragtag group to contain a ghostly uprising.

While this isn’t the original team, there appears to be a concerted effort to bring the franchise back to familiarity, including having Jason Reitman, son of original director Ivan Reitman, direct and co-write. Jason had previously avoided getting too close to his father’s shadow, but now with a career built on acclaimed hits like Juno and Up in the Air, I guess he’s fine embracing his father’s legacy.

This go-around also seems to be aiming for affability, casting the ever-lovable Paul Rudd as a knowledgeable teacher and recognizable favorites Carrie CoonFinn Wolfhard, and Mckenna Grace as the main family.

Yes, this trailer does seem to be leaning heavily on nostalgia, but we all love Ghostbusters, right? Do we really mind getting more?

Ghostbusters: Afterlife is directed by Jason Reitman and stars Carrie Coon, Finn Wolfhard, Mckenna Grace, and Paul Rudd. It will be released in the US and the UK on July 10th, 2020. For international release dates, click here.
