Ford v Ferrari depicts the rivalry between the American car manufacturer Ford and the Italian powerhouse Ferrari. Ford v Ferrari depicts the challenge mounted by Ford to beat the Italian powerhouse which had been dominant for years up to that point. Henry Ford II (Tracy Letts) and Lee Iacocca (Jon Bernthal) decided to allow designer Carroll Shelby (Matt Damon) and race car driver Ken Miles (Christian Bale) to do whatever was needed to finally beat the Italians during the 1966 24 Hour race of Le Mans.
Michael Mann worked on a project about the Ford Ferrari rivalry for years but while that project seems to have fallen off the radar, Ford v. Ferrari looks set to speed right into awards season with a November release date. Any film featuring either Matt Damon or Christian Bale is sure to get people interested, add in a few super charged racing sequences and you have a potential awards season contender on your hands.
It doesn’t hurt if those hands happen to be the hands of a talented director like James Mangold whose most recent project, Logan, was released to rave reviews. Mangold has been involved with stellar productions for over 20 years at this point, Ford v Ferrari might be his first awards contender since Walk the Line.
Ford v. Ferrari is directed by James Mangold and stars Christian Bale, Matt Damon, Caitriona Balfe, and Jon Bernthal. It will be released on November 15th, 2019 in the U.K. and the U.S. For international release dates click here.
