FINCH Trailer

Tom Hanks fights for survival with more than just a volleyball in Finch, the latest from director Miguel Sapochnik.

In the film, Hanks’ Finch is a lonely survivor after a solar flare has catastrophic effects on Earth. He’s able to cobble together enough equipment to keep himself alive, but it’s not until he finds a dog that he begins to have real joy again. One of the things he’s been working on, a robot voiced by Caleb Landry Jones, could bring him even more if he’s able to get it working and get the three of them out of the way of a deadly storm.

The film was supposed to have a regular theatrical release, but like so many, the pandemic halted those plans. It’s sort of comical in this case, a movie about an apocalyptic natural event getting derailed by…the nearest thing to an apocalyptic natural event any of us have experienced, but hey, we can all watch Hanks try to survive it on Apple TV+ now!

The film is a bit of a return to features for Sapochnik, who directed the 2010 flop Repo Men and has been working in TV ever since. However, it’s been some pretty impressive TV work, including episodes of Game of Thrones, True Detective, and Masters of Sex, so perhaps he’s ready now to deliver the kind of big-screen science fiction goodness Finch aspires to be.

Finch is directed by Miguel Sapochnik and stars Tom Hanks and Caleb Landry Jones. It will be released worldwide on Apple TV+ on November 5th, 2021.
