FALLING FOR FIGARO Trailer

A woman goes for her dreams in Falling for Figaro, the latest from co-writer and director Ben Lewin.
Millie’s life was going according to plan. She had a good boyfriend and was moving up the ranks quickly as a fund manager, but her lifelong dream of being an opera singer was getting further and further out of reach. Deciding to take a chance on herself, she quits it all and moves to the Scottish Highlands to study with one of the greats. Turns out she’s not the only one there, and she and the young man hit it off as they prepare for a singing competition.
Lewin knows how to handle feel-good romantic comedies like this, having steered 2012’s The Sessions to Sundance glory. Still, that added some weight to the schmaltz, which Falling for Figaro seems to lack. I wouldn’t expect this to be anything but what it says on the box, and you’ll know if you’re into that sort of thing.
If you are, then I would say you’re in good hands with Lewin and stars Danielle Macdonald and Hugh Skinner. The latter have shown off their singing and charming skills before, so they’re sure bets to pull off this material. Add in the comedy chops of Joanna Lumley as the stodgy instructor and you’ve got a hit.
