F9 Trailer

Family fights back in F9, the latest in the Fast & Furious franchise.

That’s right, the loveable oaf of American blockbuster entertainment is back, and that means more car chases, more physics-defying stunts, and yes, definitely more family. There’s a plot, of course, something about their recent adversary, Cypher, enlisting Dom’s younger brother to exact revenge, but that’s simply a framework to allow for all the silly fun to take place.

It’s easy to take potshots at these movies, but there’s a soul-cleansing simplicity to a series that knows precisely what it is, and the Fast & Furious franchise knows exactly what it is. You need Dom (Vin Diesel) and a group of his old cohorts (here that seems to be Michelle Rodriguez’s Letty, Tyrese Gibson’s Roman, Ludacris’s Tej, and the return of Sung Kang’s Han) with a big name added as a new villain (enter John Cena as Dom’s brother) doing something completely ridiculous like a car chase with magnets. And these movies give that to you, and it’s no surprise why they’ve got the formula down.

The team behind the series returns as often as its stars do, this time with director Justin Lin taking the helm for the fifth time. Even as the series has expanded from its much more humble origins, Lin and his cohorts have keyed in on what fans what expanded on and what they want to stay consistent, so expect another bombastic, satisfying entry in this eternally fast and furious franchise.

F9 is directed by Justin Lin and stars Vin Diesel, Michelle Rodriguez, and John Cena. It will be released in the US on June 25th, 2021, and in the UK on July 8th, 2021. For international release dates, click here.
