Saving a boy gets way more complicated than expected in Extraction, the feature debut of director Sam Hargrave.
The boy, of course, is not to blame for his predicament. The sins of the father, as the saying goes, and the poor guy’s got a lot passing on to him thanks to his dad’s drug business. He’s been taken hostage by some of his father’s enemies, and gun for hire Tyler is sent in to bring him home safely. Turns out their adversaries are way more connected than anyone thought, but Tyler finds himself unable to abandon the kid because of his own troubled past.
This is another big action movie from Netflix, a genre they keep trying to break into with little success. Prestige dramas, rom-coms, pretty much everything else has fallen into place, but this one facet of the movie business remains out of their reach.
Hargrave seems like a good bet to turn that around, though, as he’s a longtime stunt coordinator with credits all over the MCU. In fact, the whole thing has deep ties to the MCU, what with Joe Russo (co-director of the last two Avengers movies) penning the script and Thor himself Chris Hemsworth starring. Co-starring is Rudhraksh Jaiswal, Golshifteh Farahani, and David Harbour.
I imagine people will be seeing this in droves as soon as it hits Netflix, and hopefully it lives up to the promise of its big-name team.
Extraction is directed by Sam Hargrave and stars Chris Hemsworth, Rudhraksh Jaiswal, and Golshifteh Farahani. It will be released worldwide on Netflix on April 24th, 2020.
