EVERYBODY WANTS SOME!! Trailer

To point out that a Richard Linklater project has been long-gestating is almost laughably commonplace, as several of his projects have either taken a long time to get financed or a long time to shoot. He famously filmed Boyhood over 12 years, spread out the Before trilogy over nearly twenty years, and first wrote Everybody Wants Some!! back in the mid-2000’s. In fact, Linklater tried to make this film in 2009, but the money didn’t come through (see, even Linklater has trouble with financing).

All of these films fall under his signature brand of nostalgia, mixing remembrance and reminiscence into a glossy, lovely, and kind of painful slice of life. Not all of his films are this way (remember, he made School of Rock), but there’s no doubt that Everybody Wants Some!! falls under this category. It’s being referred to as a spiritual sequel to both Dazed and Confused and Boyhood, dropping in on its characters as they start college. To be clear, none of Linklater’s previous characters appear in Everybody Wants Some!!, but the film is the continued rumination on Linklater’s own life.

As he’s made so many of these films before, you’ll know if you’re down for their chill style. If so, then get ready to tune in and think about some sharks (or baseball, tails, and cereal).

Everybody Wants Some!! is directed by Richard Linklater and stars Blake Jenner, Ryan Guzman, Zoey Deutch, and probably about eight other people who will be famous in ten years. It will be released in the U.S. on March 30th, 2016 and in the U.K. on May 13th, 2016. International release dates can be found here.

What period of life do you want to see Linklater take on (or return to) next? Let us know in the comments!
