Everybody Knows is the latest film by Iranian filmmaker Asghar Farhadi. Farhadi is best known for his Oscar winning films A Separation and The Salesman. Everybody Knows starts out as a film about a wedding but quickly turns into a drama once a kidnapping ruins the festivities. As time passes, old secrets come back to haunt all parties involved.
Everybody Knows marks the second collaboration between Penélope Cruz and Javier Bardem in a two year period. The previous collaboration was an adaptation of the book Loving Pablo, Hating Escobar by journalist Virginia Vallejo about her affair with notorious drug kingpin Pablo Escobar. Given the lacklustre response to Loving Pablo, it’ll be interesting to see whether Everybody Knows will be received more favourably.
Everybody Knows is directed by Asghar Farhadi and stars Penélope Cruz, Javier Bardem, Ricardo Darín, Inma Cuesta and Bárbara Lennie. The film was first shown in competition at the 2018 Cannes Film Festvial. It will be released in Spain on September 14th, 2018 with as of yet unknown U.K. and U.S. release dates.
