THE EQUALIZER 2 Trailer

It’s been a while since we last saw Denzel Washington kick ass in The Equalizer. Don’t get me wrong, it’s great seeing Washington work his magic in serious fare like Fences and Roman J. Israel Esq. But it’s hard to beat the entertainment value of seeing Washington take on a horde of mercenaries half his age. Even though it seemed like the events of the first Equalizer film were an isolated return to action for Robert McCall (Denzel Washington) he finds himself drawn out of retirement once again when a group of mercenaries kidnap his former colleague Susan Plummer (Melissa Leo).

Over the last few years, a lot of people have complained about the steady stream of remakes and sequels that are being greenlit. Though I certainly am skeptical when it comes to remakes, I don’t think sequels are such a bad thing. The way I see it, once a remake is put out, it creates an opportunity to do something new within a new, alternate version of the same story. The second Equalizer film is an opportunity to do something truly original with the character that was reestablished in the first Equalizer film. It’ll be interesting to see what Fuqua and Washington have in store for us.

The Equalizer 2 is directed by Antoine Fuqua and stars Denzel Washington, Melissa Leo and Pedro Pascal. It will be released in the U.K. on August 17th, 2018 and in the U.S. on July 20th, 2018. For international release dates click here.
