EMERGENCY Trailer

A night of partying is interrupted in Emergency, the latest from director Carey Williams.
Sean, Kunle, and Carlos are nearing the end of their undergrad life. Sean has taken it upon himself to plan one last epic night of party-hopping, which gets interrupted when Sean and Kunle return to their apartment to find Carlos has unknowingly let in a drunk white girl. Now she’s passed out in their living room and they, two Black and one Latino man must decide how best to help her while not getting themselves hurt in the process.
The film is an expansion of a short by Williams and screenwriter K.D. Dávila, both of whom return for the feature. The short won awards at both Sundance and SXSW, so you know they’ll be able to balance the contrasting tones of a wild night out comedy and a dramatic examination of race. What isn’t certain is if they’ll be able to fill out and maintain the story over an entire feature.
The advantage of a feature, though, means getting bigger names in front of the camera. Here they got RJ Cyler, Donald Elise Watkins, and Sebastian Chacon, who all have extensive credits in TV and film, to star as the central trio. Maddie Nichols plays the inebriated girl and Sabrina Carpenter the sister chasing after her.
This will be a tough film to pull off, but with strong reviews out of its festival run, it seems likely they pull off the unique blend of genres.
Emergency is directed by Carey Williams and stars RJ Cyler, Donald Elise Watkins, and Sebastian Chacon. It will be released in the US in theaters on May 20th and on Amazon Prime on May 27th. Further release dates are not currently known.
