ELVIS Trailer

Revisit the life of the King of Rock & Roll with Elvis, the latest from director Baz Luhrmann.

There are biopics and then there are Biopics, and this is certain to be the latter. For so many reasons it will be hard to ignore Elvis, not least of all because of its subject. We all know about Elvis Presley’s swinging hips and lasting influence on music. We also know about his decline in popularity and health, culminating in an untimely death. There’s so much to get through when taking on this man that it’s hard to imagine anyone fitting it into one movie.

Except, maybe, Baz Luhrmann. The man who’s synonymous with excess is the other big reason Elvis will be hard to ignore, as he’s sure to make every moment loud and eye-popping. He’s never let us down in that regard before. Say what you will about Moulin Rouge!, The Great Gatsby, and Romeo + Juliet, but you can’t fault them for lack of pizzazz.

Taking on the infamous title role is Austin Butler, who grew up in several Nickelodeon and Disney Channel TV series and has been working steadily ever since. This will undoubtedly take his career to another level, though, if it goes well. He only has to hold his own again history and Tom Hanks, who co-stars as Elvis’ shifty manager, Colonel Tom Parker.

This will be a Movie for sure. A good movie? Who knows. But certainly, one that won’t be ignored.

Elvis is directed by Baz Luhrmann and stars Austin Butler, Tom Hanks, and Olivia DeJonge. It will be released in the US and the UK on June 24th, 2022. For international release dates, click here.
