EDDIE THE EAGLE Trailer

Bring your friends, buy some popcorn, and leave your cynicism at the door, because Eddie the Eagle isn’t hiding its feel-good roots. Based on the story of Great Britain’s first Olympic ski jumper (who oddly went to the same Olympics as the guys from Cool Runnings), this looks to have all the clichés of our most beloved sports movies. Eddie’s going to have the world against him, but with a down-on-his-luck coach and a plucky spirit, he’ll fight to make his dreams come true.

It’s tough to land the right tone for this sort of film, but director Dexter Fletcher might just be up for the task. His previous film was the well-received musical  rising fast, and another staring vehicle courtesy of his producers from Kingsman: The Secret Service should continue that trend. Plus, it’s hard not to like Hugh Jackman in everything.

Film history is littered with bad sports movies that look like Eddie the Eagle, but the few that get it right linger in pop culture for years. With this cast and crew, let’s not dismiss this film before it gets a chance to take off.

Eddie the Eagle is directed by Dexter Fletcher and stars Taron Egerton and Hugh Jackman. American audiences can see it on February 26th, 2016 while everyone in the U.K. must wait until April 1st, 2016. International release dates can be found here.
