A fight comes once again in Don’t Breathe 2, the directorial debut of Rodo Sayagues.
People keep underestimating Norman, which I imagine is par for the course for blind people. The first outing of the series saw some young ne’er-do-wells think he was an easy burglary target, but this time Norman has a part to play in bringing on the carnage. He’s taken in a young girl, where she came from is unclear from the trailer, but she is the reason a group of men shows up at Norman’s door, and he’s not about to let her go without a fight.
The first movie in this apparent series took people off guard for its inventive setups and gross twists, most of which hinge on the fact that Norman is no wilting flower. Expect much more of the same from the sequel, which sees Sayagues and Fede Alvarez return as co-writers. The difference here is that Sayagues directs instead of Alvarez, so we’ll have to see if he’s as good at putting the inventiveness onto the screen as well as the page.
Returning, of course, is Stephen Lang as the violent and hardly heroic Norman. Co-starring with him is Madelyn Grace, the young girl he seems determined to keep with him, and Brendan Sexton III, one of the men leading this new, ill-advised home invasion.
The sequel won’t be able to take us by surprise as the first movie did, but hopefully, it’s still a fun (and violent) time at the movies.
Don’t Breathe 2 is directed by Rodo Sayagues and stars Stephen Lang, Madelyn Grace, and Brendan Sexton III. It will be released in the US and the UK on August 13th, 2021. For international release dates, click here.
