DOLOR Y GLORIA Trailer

Dolor y Gloria (Pain & Glory in English) has been described as Pedro Almodóvar’s take on Fellini’s 8 1/2. The film shows director Salvador Mallo (Antonio Banderas) revisiting key moments in his life as he enters the twilight of his career. Judging from the trailer it seems like he’s dealing with some significant health issues. As he revisits happier times in his life, he starts to write a new film.
One of the great things about Almodóvar’s filmography is the fact he’s always been loyal to his actors. Dolor y Gloria is a welcome return to the Almodóvar universe for Antonio Banderas after his dark turn as a vengeful plastic surgeon in The Skin I Live In and his first roles in the 1980s. Even though the trailer does not offer any details, it’s clear to see Dolor y Gloria will be yet another gorgeously shot, colourful adventure.
Dolor y gloria is directed by Pedro Almodóvar and stars Antonio Banderas, Penélope Cruz, Asier Etxeandia and Susi Sánchez. It will be released on March 22nd, 2019 in Spain. For international release dates click here.
