DEATH ON THE NILE Trailer

The ‘stache is sniffing out another killer in Death on the Nile, the latest from director Kenneth Branagh.

They don’t make ’em like they used to. Or, at least, no one but Branagh does. After reviving the star-studded mystery picture with 2017’s Murder on the Orient Express, he returns to the Agatha Christie well for another of the fantastically mustachioed Hercule Poirot murder mysteries. This time the detective stumbles upon the death of an heiress, and naturally, he has a list of intertwined suspects to work through.

Always a glutton for lush productions, Branagh brought a cozy elegance to Orient Express, and from the trailer, it looks like he’s doing much the same with Nile. Big sets and ravishing costumes deck out a cast that’s to die for, with Branagh himself returning as the famous detective. His list of co-stars could take up the rest of the article, but a few of the highlights are Gal Gadot, Armie Hammer, Sophie Okonedo, Letitia Wright, Rose Leslie, and Russell Brand. The last one is weird, but let’s roll with it.

Puttering around with these fine people is the point of these stories, while the mystery gives you some light window dressing of a plot. Yeah, murder is serious, but these things don’t pretend to be a reality. They are glamorous escapes from reality, so if that’s your style, get ready to kick back for another round.

Death on the Nile is directed by Kenneth Branagh and stars Branagh, Gal Gadot, and Armie Hammer. It will be released in the US on October 23rd, 2020. For international release dates, click here.
