CYRANO Trailer

Love gets complicated in Cyrano, the latest from director Joe Wright.

Based on the play Cyrano de Bergerac, which itself is based on the life of the titular army man, duelist, and poet, this film spins the lovelorn tale of his life into a musical extravaganza. This Cyrano pines quietly for the beautiful and intelligent Roxanne, and despite all of his accomplishments, he feels that his height excludes him from being a worthy suitor. When Roxanne’s eye falls on a beautiful but less intellectual man, the two paramours join forces to become her ultimate match.

It’s a tale as old as time (or at least as old as 1897, when the play was written), which should play into Wright’s strengths. The man is known for his lush productions, so expect the musical numbers to dazzle. But also, his early success with Pride & Prejudice (2005) and Atonement indicates that he can pull off a swoony romance.

The players in front of the camera are just as impressive, with the title role being taken up by the great Peter Dinklage. Rounding out the love triangle is Haley Bennett as Roxanne and Kelvin Harrison Jr. as Christian, the man who catches Roxanne’s eye.

With such a strong team behind it, it’s hard to imagine that Cyrano won’t sing.

Cyrano is directed by Joe Wright and stars Peter Dinklage, Haley Bennett, and Kelvin Harrison Jr. It will have an LA release on December 17th, 2021 before releasing wide in the US on January 21st, 2022 and in the UK on January 14th. For international release dates, click here.
