A big-time shootout happens in a small town locale in Copshop, the latest from director Joe Carnahan.
Teddy knew he was in trouble, and when he ran out of places to run he had to get creative. With hitmen closing in around him, he figured the safest place to be was behind bars. Surely no one would come after him with cops guarding him (no one sane, at least). Unfortunately, hitmen don’t have the best heads on their shoulders, leaving an overachieving young cop to obstinately stand in the way of their onslaught.
This looks like your classic goofy, bloody thriller, which is exactly what Carnahan knows how to do. He’s basically already done this premise in Smokin’ Aces, so the real challenge for him will be finding new ways to make you laugh and grit your teeth.
Helping him out is the charismatic combo of Frank Grillo as the target, Teddy, and Gerard Butler as an early arrival to the attempted slaughter. The ever-reliable Toby Huss as an even more out there hitman should also bring the laughs, leaving Alexis Louder, with few feature roles to her name, as the only question mark of the movie. She plays that obstinate cop, likely filling the role of the straight (wo)man to the eccentric cast of characters.
Even with one wildcard, there are so many people here doing exactly what they’re good at that Copshop is likely to hit the mark.
Copshop is directed by Joe Carnahan and stars Frank Grillo, Gerard Butler, and Alexis Louder. It will be released in the UK on September 10th, 2021 and in the US on September 17th, 2021. For international release dates, click here.
