Transformers: Age of Extinction is the fourth installment in the Transformers film series, and the sequel to Transformers: Dark of the Moon. It takes place four years after the conclusion of Dark of the Moon. Mechanic Cade Yeager (Mark Wahlberg) and his daughter Tessa (Nicola Weltz) find a big, old, rusty truck, which Yeager wants to fix and sell. Upon closer inspection, he finds out it’s not just any old truck – it’s a Transformer; it’s Optimus Prime. Immediately after activating the Transformer, men show up to take him – they’re hunting the Transformers. In the meantime, powerful businessmen and scientists (among them Stanley Tucci) are working to learn from past Transformer attacks. They develop new technologies, which turn out to be beyond their control.
This is the first Transformers film to feature the Dinobots, and the returning Transformers are Optimus Prime, Brains, Ratchet and Bumblebee. The movie was directed by Michael Bay and written by Ehren Kruger, who also wrote Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen, and Steven Spielberg is attached as executive producer. Check out the trailer below!
At the advanced screening of the movie in Sydney that Mark Wahlberg attended, he said that often, you see the most important scenes of a movie in the trailers, spoiling most of the film, but that his isn’t the case here, and that there’s a lot more behind Transformers: Age of Extinction. Honestly, let’s hope there is because the trailer doesn’t tell us much yet – I’m not getting a feel for the story at all.
The trailer’s a lot to take in, though, particularly on the graphics front. The CGI is stunning, and, admittedly, quite overwhelming! I’m curious to see how the Dinobots are going to enter the story, though, and what these huge flying things are. The trailer has piqued my interest, even if I’m not that big of a Transformers enthusiast.
Transformers: Age of Extinction will be released on June 27 in the U.S. and on July 10 in the U.K. Check out this page for release dates in other countries.
