COMING 2 AMERICA Trailer

The prince returns in Coming 2 America, the latest from director Craig Brewer.

32 years after Eddie Murphy introduced us to his African prince in search of a wife, he brings the character back for another round of fish out of water hilarity. This time, though, he comes to America in search of his long-lost son, and instead of the Murphy’s Akeem being thrown off by his new environment it’s his son, Lavelle, who must find his footing as the heir apparent in the fictional African country of Zamunda.

As you can see from this trailer, this offers up the kind of broad humor Murphy thrives in, and it’s fitting that Brewer is continuing to steer his comeback. The two teamed up for Dolemite Is My Name, which many hoped was Murphy’s first step towards regaining his former glory. Brewer was able to capture everything he brings as a performer beautifully, which hopefully he will do again with Coming 2 America.

Of course, the ’80s comedy hit wasn’t just about Murphy (although he did and will again appear in numerous roles). Arsenio HallJames Earl Jones, and Shari Headley all return while Wesley Snipes, Leslie Jones, Jermaine Fowler, and KiKi Layne are added to the cast. Hopefully, those big names translate to big laughs.

Coming 2 America is directed by Craig Brewer and stars Eddie Murphy, Wesley Snipes, and Jermaine Fowler. It will be released on Amazon Prime worldwide March 5th, 2021.
