The Cinephile’s Lounge: Week 30

Hello all! Gather ’round, it’s time for this week’s Cinephile’s Lounge!

Let’s hang out in this beautiful cinema today, the Phoenix Cinema in London. Man, I wish I could go to London this weekend. If only teleportation was possible.

Sorry for posting the Lounge a bit later than usual! I’ve been busy preparing my house for guests: my brother’s coming over for the first time since I moved to Australia and I’m super excited! But it does mean obligatory chores like cleaning, fixing up the guest room, and all that fun stuff.

ANYWAY, I was supposed to see A Most Wanted Man this week as I was invited to a screening, but I ended up at the wrong cinema. The chaos in my head is sometimes a bit too much. Must make myself look where I have to go, first, before I leave the house. Has anyone had the chance to see it, yet? What did you think? I’m so eager to see this movies, I was thoroughly disappointed I missed the screening.

Other than that, I finally saw Fruitvale Station, which was beautiful and harrowing. Michael B. Jordan was excellent, and incidentally, I’m also watching The Wire‘s first season, and found out he’s little Wallace! Even then, you could tell he’s a talented actor. Can’t wait to see more of his work.

Regarding The Wire: it’s a show I’ve been meaning to watch for a very long time now. Especially as a criminologist who specializes in crime film and representations of crime and law enforcement in film, it’s a show I had to watch. I’m enjoying every bit of it, the show is well written and well directed, and the cast is terrific. I’m a bit late to the party, obviously, but I’m glad I’m finally watching it!

What did you watch this week? Anything you’d recommend?

Question of the Week

As I’m watching The Wire, which I can obviously recommend (but who can’t), which crime series is the best you’ve ever seen? Why?
