Excited about the Oscars? Have some infographs!

It’s less than a week to go for the big event of the Academy Awards! On March 2, the 86th Academy Awards will take place, presented by Ellen DeGeneres. The event usually takes place a week earlier, but was scheduled a week later to prevent broadcasting conflicts with the 2014 Winter Olympics.

The Stages and Hierarchy of Film Production

A few weeks ago I was looking for some sort of schematic overview of what a film production looks like, and I found something spectacular, created by Anton29 on Deviantart.com. Left click on the infographic and select “open in new tab/page” to see it in its full glory!

5 Reasons GREASE is Horribly Sexist

Grease has been hugely popular ever since it came out in 1978 – yep, it’s already that old. It’s rated 7.2 on IMDb and 70 by MetaCritic, and if you look on the IMDb message boards for Grease, for instance, you can see it’s still being discussed actively.

The Cinephile’s Lounge: Week 6

Another week, another cinema. This is the Castro Cinema in San Fransisco, CA, USA. It’s a classic beauty, isn’t it?

Are IMDb Ratings and MetaCritic Scores Useful at All?

When I was younger (and not a critic yet), I used IMDb ratings to decide what to watch, for both movies and TV shows. My rule was: don’t watch anything that scores below 7.

Ah, the weekend’s on our doorstep once again. Here’s a beautiful cinema for you: This is the Cinémathèque Française in Paris, France:

Real Astronauts’ Awesome Reviews of GRAVITY

Alfonso Cuarón has been getting a lot of award attention for his most recent movie, Gravity (2013) as of late. It has been nominated for 10 Academy Awards (including Best Picture, Best Director for Cuarón and Best Actress for Sandra Bullock), and was already awarded with seven Critics Choice Awards and a Golden Globe for Best Director. I haven’t been fortunate enough to see it yet though I can’t wait!

The Cinephile’s Lounge: Week 4

Heya everyone! As it’s almost weekend again, here’s the cinephile’s cinema, where we film lovers gather ’round and have a chat. Take a (virtual) drink, get some popcorn, and sit down in one of those lovely chairs.

How did I Combine Criminology & Film Study?

Quite a few people asked me now: how do criminology and movie combine and how did I do it? This post is for all of you who’ve been wondering.

6 Movies That Screw with your Sense of Reality

I love movies that present some philosophical notion. What I enjoy even more so is when a movie, ambitiously, tries to screw with your perception or concepts of reality. Here’s a list of the movies that do it best.

5 Great Movie Quotes about Drugs

You can’t get around drugs in movies, and we will probably all agree that drugs do make a very interesting subject for movies and other stories. Here are some of my favorite movie (and TV show) quotes about drugs. 5.

Awesome Tribute to BREAKING BAD: Mr. White’s Confessions in Graffiti

I came across this video today (directed by Lyle Lindgren) and it pretty much knocked my socks off. It’s a tribute to Breaking Bad and Walter White. The mashup of the music and soundbites from the series is amazing, the way it’s filmed is great and I love how they spray-painted on “crystal” (I take it’s acrylic glass but still, pretty awesome).

5 Awesome TED Talks about (the Art of) Filmmaking

I really like TED. I enjoy watching the videos, to be awed, to be inspired. I also really like the videos that discuss the movie industry or movies themselves.
