BREAKING Trailer

A bank robbery spins out of control in Breaking, the feature debut of co-writer/director Abi Damaris Corbin.

Brian didn’t have a clear plan for how the event would unfold, but he knew what he wanted to accomplish. When he showed up to the bank with a bomb and some demands he didn’t want to steal an exorbitant amount of cash. No, he wanted to get people’s attention, because he hadn’t received everything he was promised by the VA and the injustice couldn’t stand. So he took some people hostage and created a media circus. Unfortunately, he didn’t have a way out.

The film was bound to draw comparisons to Dog Day Afternoon, the sweaty bank robbery movie that perfectly captured bumbling but sympathetic robbers. Brian seems to be the same sort of fellow, so despite the restrictions on space and action that the scenario sets up, Corbin has a very good blueprint to follow.

The people in front of the camera bring more experience to the proceedings, with John Boyega starring as the bank robber, Nicole Beharie as the bank manager, and Michael Kenneth Williams as a negotiator. That’s a hell of a trio to circle around each other, so even if Corbin’s footing isn’t sure in her first feature, those three should make Breaking worth seeing.

Breaking is directed by Abi Damaris Corbin and stars John Boyega, Nicole Beharie, and Michael Kenneth Williams. It will be released in the US on August 26th. For international release dates, click here.
