BREAK POINT Trailer

There are some things to mention here. First, this is not Point Break (2015). Second, this is pretty much the Adam Sandler-type movie we wished for, but Adam Sandler can no longer make them since he sold his soul. In Break Point, a doofus makes terrible life choices but then decides to actually make an effort. I’ll get into why it’s like an old school Sandler film later. More to the point, this is one of the better trailers I’ve seen for a comedy. Thus, I present to you the Break Point trailer. Watch it at the top of the page.

This sports comedy is directed by Jay Karas. It stars Jeremy Sisto and David Walton along more established actors like J.K. Simmons and Amy Smart. As the story goes, two estranged brothers reunite to compete together in a grand slam tennis tournament. One brother can be summed up simply as a nuisance who plays tennis, while the other one is a teacher on break being stalked by an 11-year-old boy. If I had to guess, those two are considered the screw-ups in their family, since Simmons and Smart are veterinarians.

Now, to explain why it’s like an old-school Adam Sandler movie. It’s actually one line during a specific moment that made think this film is as crass as the old Sandler flicks – but within reason. That moment is when Smart’s character, Heather, tells Sisto’s character, Jim, to stop flicking the dog’s penis. There are other gems like this as well. It’s a short moment but it’s telling of how immature Jim is when he starts banging on the front desk service bell. Other similarities being that it has both former SNL and MadTV cast members like Chris Parnell and Mo Collins, respectively. If you know your 90’s U.S. late night comedy, Sandler’s Happy Gilmore had SNL alumnus Kevin Nealon and MadTV favorite Will Sasso as part of their cast. Even more priceless is when Jimmy pours a 40oz on his mom’s grave. Mad props!

Break Point came out already to a limited release in the U.S., but currently has no international releases scheduled.
