Birth of the Dragon is an upcoming film about a 1965 underground fight between Bruce Lee (Philip Ng) and Wong Jack Man (Yu Xia). When Bruce Lee started teaching martial arts to foreigners, many in the martial arts community felt he was making a big mistake. Wong Jack Man was one of them and decided to challenge Bruce Lee to an underground fight.
Many of the details of the fight are still heavily disputed but the fact that it even took place makes this a very interesting watch for Bruce Lee fans as well as martial arts fans in general. With the current popularity of the UFC and MMA in general the release of this film seems very timely.
Birth of the Dragon looks like a film that will give us some insight into the legendary martial artist turned actor before he became a legend with plenty of cool fighting sequences between Bruce Lee and Wong Jack Man as well as between Bruce Lee and a number of criminals working for a local crime boss named Auntie Blossom (Jin Xing).
Birth of the Dragon is directed by George Nolfi and stars Philip Ng, Yu Xia, Jin Xing and Billy Magnussen. It will be released in the U.S. on August 25th, 2017. For international release dates, click here.
