BIRDS OF PREY Trailer

Ladies revolt in Birds of Prey, the latest entry in the DCEU.

Harley Quinn is striking out on her own after Suicide Squad, navigating the criminal underworld with her own brand of unpredictable maneuvers. When a girl comes to posses a diamond belonging to Black Mask, Harley sides with the girl, forming the eponymous team of women intent on protecting her from harm.

The bumpy road of the DCEU has been well documented, with each film becoming more and more the ownership of individual filmmakers instead of the intricately laced and minutely overseen productions of the MCU. This has allowed Wonder Woman and Shazam! to shine and everything else to flounder (as much as tentpole films can). That leaves Birds of Prey as a big old question mark, with no one knowing quite what to expect from the next entry in this universe.

That they got Cathy Yan to direct makes it even more of a question mark, as Yan has only one feature to her name, Dead Pigs, which was never released outside of festivals in the US.

Starring, of course, is Margot Robbie, who worked hard behind the scenes to make a Harley Quinn movie happen. Joining her for the new squad is Mary Elizabeth Winstead, Jurnee Smollett-Bell, and Rosie Perez.

With so many unknowns, it’s hard telling exactly how Birds of Prey will turn out, but hopefully it keeps the DCEU on the right track.
