BEVERLY HILLS COP: AXEL F TRAILER

Eddie Murphy just can’t stop crashing vehicles in the 1st full-length trailer for Beverly Hills Cop: Axel F.

It’s a sunny day in Beverly Hills, hampered only by a rogue helicopter piloted by renegade cop Axel Foley (Murphy). After Foley’s antics land him in jail, we get a glimpse of his relationship with estranged daughter Jane (Taylour Paige).

In a modern LA he no longer understands, Axel is spurred into action against a new threat. Teaming with a young detective (Joseph Gordon-Levitt) as well as old allies Billy (Judge Reinhold) & John (John Ashton), this wisecracking cop must save his daughter and the city he loves one last time.

And of course, there’s plenty of action-packed destruction along the way, including…. a snowplow? In Los Angeles?

After several failed spin-offs, seeing Eddie Murphy back as Foley warms our hearts. There’s just no character he fits quite so comfortably. Unfortunately, the rest of the trailer feels content to coast on Murphy’s charm with a by-the-numbers plot and action so abundant it begins to numb the mind.

Still, the cast bounces off each other well, and the trailer sells an old-school charm missing in action movies today. Not everything needs to have world-ending gravitas, sometimes a one-liner and a snowplow barreling down Rodeo Drive does the job.

“I’ve missed you Axel,” says returning character Billy in the trailer’s closing moments. Us too, Billy, us too.

Beverly Hills Cop: Axel F is directed by Mark Molloy and will be released worldwide on Netflix on July 3rd, 2024, and stars Eddie Murphy, Taylour Paige & Joseph Gordon-Levitt.
