AQUAMAN Trailer

We’re mere months away from the release of the first Aquaman standalone film. Considering the budget, the unique underwater setting and the talent involved in bringing the first Aquaman solo outing to the big screen, Aquaman is the film DC fans have been looking forward to for years.

Aquaman used to be the butt of the joke, mostly due to the ’60s cartoon series which depicted Aquaman as one of the lesser superheroes, but since the casting of Jason Momoa most of the jokes have ceased although they were briefly referenced during Momoa‘s first outing in 2017’s Justice League. Aquaman takes places after the events depicted in Justice League and depicts Arthur Curry as he returns to Atlantis to take on his half-brother Orm aka Ocean Master (Patrick Wilson) who has declared war on the surface world.

The DCEU has been plagued by inconsistent management over the years causing all sorts of uncertainty for the future of the cinematic universe. Whereas Marvel seems to be getting stronger with each film, DC can’t seem to get a grip on their cinematic universe. Some have speculated the upcoming Joker standalone film starring Joaquin Phoenix will be indicative of a new direction which will be centered around standalone films as opposed to trying to copy the Marvel model of standalone films that serve as building blocks for the larger story. It will be interesting to see whether Aquaman will manage to stem the tide for DC.

Aquaman is directed by James Wan and stars Jason Momoa, Amber Heard, Nicole Kidman, Temuera Morrison, Patrick Wilson, Willem Dafoe and others. It will be released in the U.K. on December 14th and in the U.S. on December 21st, 2018. For international release dates click here.
