DC Comics films as of late (with the exception of Blue Beetle) have largely been critical and box office disappointments. James Wan is looking to change that with a sequel to his mega-hit Aquaman in the next film to be released by Warner Bros, Aquaman and The Lost Kingdom.
The story for the sequel was originally pitched by Aquaman himself, Jason Momoa, and was written by David Leslie Johnson-McGoldrick. Directed by James Wan, the film centers around Aquaman struggling to balance his duties as a new father and place as the king of Atlantis. When an old enemy gains new strength he’s forced to team up with his brother, Oceanmaster (Patrick Wilson) to try and bring balance back to the seven kingdoms.
Aquaman and The Lost Kingdom boasts a stellar cast featuring; Jason Momoa, Patrick Wilson, Amber Heard, Yahya Abdul-Mateen II, Dolph Lundgren, Randall Park, Temuera Morrison, and Nicole Kidman. The film faced a couple of delays but is finally finding its way into theaters on December 20th, 2023.
