APOLLO 10 1/2 Trailer

History and fiction collide in Apollo 10 1/2, the latest from writer/director Richard Linklater.

In another riff on his past, Linklater takes us back to 1969 through the eyes of a boy in Texas. The kid plays sports, does well in school, watches his dad toil away at NASA, and gets recruited to land on the moon. The latter bit is the fiction, obviously, as NASA didn’t make the lunar module too small for adults. But a kid can dream, right? Especially when such massive events are going on around him and he’s still young enough to take everything in through a slanted perspective.

The animation, which combines traditional methods with the rotoscoping Linklater used in Waking Life and A Scanner Darkly is its own oddball creation, making Apollo 10 1/2 everything you’ve come to expect from the acclaimed filmmaker. Some creative production elements with a laid-back, personal story? Classic Linklater.

The film stars Milo Coy as the young boy with Jack Black providing voiceover as the adult version of the character. Co-starring is Glen Powell, Zachary Levi, and Josh Wiggins.

The chill, nostalgic film will be landing on Netflix after its SXSW debut, so you should know by the time it hits your Netflix homepage whether it will be worth a hang.

Apollo 10 1/2 is directed by Richard Linklater and stars Milo Coy, Jack Black, and Glen Powell. It will be released on Netflix worldwide on April 1st.
