ANNA AND THE APOCALYPSE Trailer

Anna was probably dreaming of sugarplums, but she wakes up to zombies instead in the genre mashup Anna and the Apocalypse.

The film is just your average coming-of-age musical with zombies set during the Christmas season. Actually, I’m just as confused by all these elements as you are, but boy does it look like a good time. The nuts and bolts of the story seems to be about Anna and her friends making their way to safety as the world spirals out of control around them. Why they are singing will hopefully be explained in the film, but really, why question the fun?

The movie is an expansion on the short Zombie Musical and was co-written by the short’s director, Ryan McHenry. Sadly, McHenry passed away before the feature could be filmed, so John McPhail (Where Do We Go From Here) took over.

It’s a complex project for the relatively inexperienced cast and crew to pull off, but it’s been receiving strong praise after its showings at genre festivals like Fantasia and Fantastic Fest. It’s definitely pitched to a particular audience, but if a holiday zombie musical sounds up your alley then it’ll probably be worth tracking down.

Anna and the Apocalypse is directed by John McPhail and stars Ella HuntMalcolm Cumming, and Marli Siu. It will be released in the US and the UK on November 30th, 2018. For international release dates, click here.
