AMMONITE Trailer

It’s love on the beach in Ammonite, the latest from writer/director Francis Lee.

Well, there’s love and a beach, but I doubt they’ll get too obvious about their relationship when they’re actually on the beach. Instead they’ll be looking for fossils, as one half of this burgeoning couple is a pro at digging up fossilized sea lizards. The other is an ailing young woman looking to recover by the sea, and the environment certainly does help her come alive. Unfortunately, this is a period piece, so their love can’t be too out in the open.

This looks like another tale of chilly longing from Lee, who previously brought us the acclaimed sweater parade God’s Own Country. It’s also got two guys falling in love in the rough land of Northern England, hence the sweaters. The beach in Ammonite doesn’t look any warmer, so yeah, similar vibes here.

Tasked with turning up the heat is Kate Winslet and Saoirse Ronan, so basically two of the greatest actors currently working. Should be a piece of cake for them and a nice treat for all of us. I mean, who doesn’t want to watch those two together?

Yes, it’s another lesbian romance about white ladies pining for each other, but it’s coming from some of the best in the business. Hopefully, they elevate this out of its familiar trappings.

Ammonite is directed by Francis Lee and stars Kate Winslet and Saoirse Ronan. It will be released in the US on November 13th, 2020. For international release dates, click here.
