AHED’S KNEE Trailer

A filmmaker unravels in Ahed’s Knee, the latest from writer/director Nadav Lapid.

While traveling to show one of his films, Y gets caught up in far too many things. He’s shooting footage for his mother back home, who isn’t in good health. He’s being hassled by an admirer, Yahalom, who despite her respect must get him to sign a document from the government. And he has a politically charged film about to enter production, which is probably what that document is about. Alone and with all these stressors, Y seems destined for a breakdown.

This appears to be a very meta film from Lapid, tapping into his relationship with his mother, Era Lapid, who edited his previous films, including the acclaimed The Kindergarten Teacher and the Golden Bear winner Synonyms, as well as taking on his relationship with his country, Israel. But personal intrigue will not be the main draw for Ahed’s Knee. No, Lapid has built a strong reputation as one of the most stylish directors out there, and this looks to be full of his trademark physical language.

Fitting right in with this style is Avshalom Pollak, an actor, and choreographer who stars as Y, who should be able to handle the emotive demands of Lapid. Co-starring with him is newcomer Nur Fibak as Yahalom.

The film has received the kind of prominent festival showings and strong reviews that one expects from a Lapid film, so odds are this one is worth tracking down.

Ahed’s Knee is directed by Nadav Lapid and stars Avshalom Pollak and Nur Fibak. It will be released in the US on March 18th, 2022. For international release dates, click here.
