ABSOLUTELY FABULOUS: THE MOVIE Trailer

This week in nothing ever dies, the sporadically running television series Absolutely Fabulous gets a movie after twenty years of being relegated to the small screen. Lead characters Edina and Patsy would certainly be thrilled by this development, if not a little miffed that it took this long to upgrade. All they want is to live the high life, which is put into jeopardy here when they bump Kate Moss into the River Thames. That should tell you a lot about the style of humor offered by Absolutely Fabulous: The Movie, but their hand is tipped much earlier in the trailer when writer/star Jennifer Saunders (as Edina) falls butt-first out of a car in the first two seconds of the trailer.
The television series has attracted quite a fan base, as evidenced by the numerous cameos in the trailer alone. It’s not hard to see why; the folly of people with twisted values has long been a staple of comedy, and there’s few examples more ridiculous than people clinging to the vapid lifestyle of a socialite long after their glory days. As an added bonus, Saunders and co-star Joanna Lumley are clearly committed to their roles, as the amount of bumps and bruises this kind of physical comedy can cause is painful to think about.
With the man-child trend still predominate and the woman-child gaining ground, Absolutely Fabulous should fit in nicely with the current comedy landscape.
Absolutely Fabulous: The Movie is directed by Mandie Fletcher and stars Jennifer Saunders and Joanna Lumley. It will be released in the U.K. on July 1st, 2016 and in the U.S. on July 22nd, 2016. For international release dates, click here.
