It’s been a while since we last saw Bradley Cooper on the big screen, unless you count his voice performances as Rocket in Avengers: Infinity War and Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2. He has chosen to take a leave of absence from the big screen to focus on his adaptation of “The Elephant Man” on Broadway.
A Star is Born will be Cooper‘s return to awards season contention, both as an actor and as a first time director. This latest remake (the third to be exact) of the 1937 classic about two performers falling in love boasts an impressive cast featuring Cooper as well as Lady Gaga and comedy legends such as Dave Chappelle and Andrew Dice Clay.
The film has been in development since as early as 2011 originally with Clint Eastwood set to direct and Beyoncé playing the female lead. Due to Beyoncé‘s pregnancy the film got pushed back. As time went on big names such as Christian Bale, Johnny Depp, Leonardo DiCaprio, Will Smith and Tom Cruise were in talks to star in the project but in the end it was Cooper who won out.
Given Cooper‘s long-term involvement with the project and this being his first film as a director, it will be interesting to see what he brings to the project. If the brief bits of music we heard in the trailer are any indication, this film will certainly feature a lot of great music.
A Star is Born is directed by Bradley Cooper and stars Bradley Cooper, Lady Gaga, Dave Chappelle, Andrew Dice Clay and Sam Elliott. It will be released on October 5th, 2018 in the U.S. and the U.K. For international release dates click here.
