A JOURNAL FOR JORDAN Trailer

Get ready for a tearjerker in A Journal for Jordan, the latest from director Denzel Washington.

Based on the article turned memoir of the same name, the film follows the relationship between 1st Sgt. Charles Monroe King and New York Times editor Dana Candey, which starts as an unlikely pairing and grows into a bond as strong as they come. When King leaves his pregnant fiancée for a tour in Iraq, he begins a journal with thoughts and advice for his unborn son, musings that, tragically, Candey must complete herself.

There are parallels here to the first film Washington directed, Antwone Fisher, which was also based on a true story, followed a military man, and revolved around looking to the past. A Journal for Jordan promises much more pleasant remembrances, though, and Washington’s growing experience behind the camera should allow him to mine all the sweetness and heartbreak that comes with the story.

Starring as the central couple is the ever-impressive Michael B. Jordan and relative newcomer Chanté Adams. The latter is given an introducing credit on this trailer, but she’s got a handful of feature roles under her belt. So while her face may be new to some, she should be capable of carrying what is likely to be the bulk of the film.

This movie’s planned holiday season release is almost cruel, but I guess if you want to get in a good cry with your family, this is the one to seek out.

A Journal for Jordan is directed by Denzel Washington and stars Michael B. Jordan and Chanté Adams. It will be released in the US on December 25th, 2021 and in the UK on January 28th, 2022. For international release dates, click here.
