Already, Fruitvale Station is on people’s shortlist for Best Drama Academy Award and has already won two awards at the Sundance Festival this year. Fruitvale Station is about the true story of Oscar, a 22-year-old Bay Area resident. On December 21, he feels something’s wrong and starts early with his resolutions to be a better person to the people around him. However, his last encounter with anyone on that day, with the police officers on Fruitvale Station, would change his world and the Bay Area for ever.

“I’m scared, I hear guns.” – “Those just fire crackers, you’re safe inside.”

Fruitvale Station posterPoor kid.

For as far as I can tell, this is going to be an interesting piece on the dynamics between black youth and law enforcement. I personally am not familiar with this story about Oscar Grant (sorry, I barely watch the news, if it was even covered here!), but I’m very curious to see what happened.

Fruitvale Station features Michael B. Jordan, who played in Dane DeHaan, and in The Wire (2002) as Wallace. With all the prizes already awarded to this movie, it seems like an exceptionally succesful debut for director Ryan Coogler.
