A Dark Spin on Disney: Twisted Princesses

Nothing is more disturbing than a Disney Princess gone bad. Artist Jeffrey Thomas proves this with his creepy Twisted Princesses artwork on deviantART. Along with most of the illustrations, Thomas tells a story depicting his creative alternate film endings for each female character.

Check out our sweet “Snow White” below.  Gone are her twinkling eyes and bright red lips. Even her dwarf friends have become her slobbering, grotesque minions.

The “Beauty and the Beast” image below is the first creation in the Twisted Princesses series. Check out the menacing face on Beast. I’m pretty sure Belle tried to hang him?

Going from “Beauty and the Beast” to his most current work, “Vanellope Von Schweet,” it’s clear he has intensified his work with more detail and brighter contrast.

See what I mean? The array of skills and detail in Vanellope’s portrait is impressive! All the pinks and clouds, and even her “glitch” is captured.

Another example of the haunting images is “Alice in Wonderland.” For this one, Thomas tells a different version of the beloved tale – one where Alice is caught by the Queen’s soldiers and beheaded. As one of the darkest of his stories, he writes:

… the Cheshire Cat… feels extremely guilty for the death of this little girl…but that feeling soon passes, for the Cheshire Cat now had himself a new toy…a new body to possess…a new puppet to carry out his twisted motives.

I could write a novel about my reactions to each of the Princesses. But I think you should experience the rest for yourself!

These give me chills! My most beloved childhood memories have been skewed into my worst nightmares. But man, are these some bad-ass alternate endings.

Thomas didn’t seem to expect the Twisted Princesses to become as popular as they did, but they are so well done, I think Disney himself would be intrigued. I hope he has time to go back and create stories for all of his first Princess images, as well. I’m particularly interested what happened to poor Ariel?!

Which one is your favorite? And which character should he remake next? Let me know in the comments!
